What is the Backup Setup?

Your AI setup includes gigabytes of downloaded models, carefully tuned configurations, vector databases full of your documents, and conversation histories. Losing any of this means hours of re-downloading and re-configuring. MacAI's Backup Setup creates a dual-layer protection strategy that keeps everything safe.

The first layer is Time Machine, Apple's built-in backup system, configured to work with a local NAS drive or external drive. This provides hourly incremental snapshots of your entire system, letting you restore individual files or roll back your entire Mac to any point in time.

The second layer is encrypted cloud backup using Rclone, configured to sync your most critical AI data to an affordable cloud storage provider like Backblaze B2 or Amazon S3. All data is encrypted before leaving your Mac, so even the cloud provider cannot read your files. This protects against physical disasters like fire, theft, or hardware failure.

We also test the entire restoration process to make sure backups are actually recoverable — because a backup you can't restore is no backup at all. You'll receive clear documentation on how to verify and restore from both backup layers.
